Meet Granma Wisdom

Have you noticed a few recent posts about a character called Granma Wisdom yet?  That’s becoming something of a theme, and it happened like this.

I was making my bed when I noticed a dialogue going through my head, it was the first Granma Wisdom post, which you will find here.  And as I started to pay attention, I thought; “Hey, this is gold!  I need to be writing this down.”  So, I dropped what I was doing, grabbed my laptop and captured it.  The next day, another one popped out.  I realised something was happening.  I wondered if I would get one a day?

Thing is, I used to be a schoolteacher and I guess I’ve always had thoughts and ideas about the kind of things children need and don’t usually find in a society and culture like ours.  I mean learning skills like breathing techniques, visualisation and meditation from an early age.  Hearing about the alternative explanation for life and death that we get from a spiritual perspective.

And there it was, not for the first time, the idea to write a book for parents and children that introduce a new, more spiritual way to understand things.  And that’s who Granma Wisdom is.  She’s a wise seer who is teaching her grandchild all she knows, because her grandchild is holding the gift of the seer too.  And through her words, maybe parents will know how to explain some of these ideas to their children, and maybe children will understand because Granma Wisdom’s words are close to the world of divine magic that children already hold in their hearts.

I don’t know if it’s going to be a real book yet, too soon to say, but the door is open, the magic is welcome and I am present to receive and follow whatever path is chosen for me.

Granma Wisdom and Petey’s Death

“Granma, look!  Petey’s dead!  I woke up this morning and he was lying on my bed, dead.”

“Oh, goodness darling, I am sorry that Petey has chosen to leave, he was very poorly yesterday and you know the vet said that might happen, don’t you?  I know it’s a shock and you’re going to miss him terribly, but it’s good to know he’s not in pain anymore.  You were so kind to keep him on your bed and let him be with you while he left.  I’m here anytime you need a great big Granma hug.”

“Why has Petey chosen to leave, Granma?”

“We all choose our death, sweetheart, just like we all choose our birth.  Death isn’t the opposite of life, life goes on, it’s the opposite of birth.  Death is a transition.  Now, that’s a big word and it means that Petey has gone through a kind of invisible doorway, and as he went through, you could say he’s shifted from being solid to being just energy, but he’s still alive.”

“But Petey didn’t choose to die, the vet said he picked up something that poisoned him.”

“Yes, she did, and she tried to make him better but it didn’t work. You know, there are many ways to die, to make that transition. Sometimes, it’s an illness, sometimes it’s an accident or situation where suddenly it happens. It’s rarely that we simply go to sleep and say; “I’m going now, see you on the other side.” But even when it’s unexpected and a terrible tragedy, there is a decision made by the soul and in agreement with the source, because we cannot cross through that doorway if we are not meant to go.”

“So, you’re saying Petey chose to go?  Why would he do that?  He loved it here with me, I know he did.”

“Ah, difficult to answer that, I don’t know what Petey’s soul journey is.  Maybe he did everything he came here to do.  Maybe another opportunity to live through another body opened up for his soul, a new life that would give him new learning.

Think of it this way, remember when your Mom and Dad went away for three weeks?  They had to go abroad for a funeral, remember?  And they left you behind with me.  You were very upset they left you, weren’t you?  You didn’t want them to go, even though you knew they were coming back.  But we talked about it and you understood that it wasn’t about leaving you, it was something they had to do for themselves.  And they didn’t want to leave you but they needed to go.  Well, it’s just the same with Petey, he didn’t want to leave you but it was something he had to do for himself.

Sweetie, it’s going to hurt, like it hurt when Mom and Dad left, that’s only natural and I’m here to listen and give you my special cuddles, right?  Remember what I said, the part that’s really Petey, his energy and soul, that’s still alive and choosing the next part of his journey.”

“If he’s still alive, where is he, then?  And why do I have his body in my hands, Granma?”

“Sweetheart, keep still and let me wipe those big tears with my hankie.  You just said it yourself, sweetie, you have his little body in your hands, you don’t have Petey.”

“But it hurts so much, Granma, I really love Petey, he was only a kitten and I don’t want him to go!”

“Sweetheart, he hasn’t gone far, would you like me to show you how to contact him now that he’s energy?”

“Can I?”

“Yes dear, anytime you like, he’s still around, you know, you just can’t see him because you’re focusing on his little body in your hands as being him, when he’s not that at all.

Come and sit on my lap and let’s breathe nice and slow together….that’s it.  Can you feel yourself calming down?  Remember how to connect to the inner peace that’s always inside you?  That’s it.

Now, close your eyes and see or just feel Petey here with you.  Can you feel him?”

“Kinda, but it’s faint, Granma.”

“Okay, if you sit like this from time to time, the connection will grow stronger and you’ll feel him every time he’s around you.  Here’s another way.  Put yourself inside your heart chakra, okay?

“Yes, Granma, I’m in.”

“Good, now inside that chamber of your heart chakra, take a seat in the chamber.  And notice there’s a chair opposite you.  Now, ask Petey to come into your heart chakra and sit on that chair.”

“He’s here, Granma!  I can see him!”

“Great!  How does he look?”

“He looks fine, he’s licking his paw, he looks relaxed and happy.”

“Good.  Now, inside your heart chakra, Petey can do something extraordinary, he can talk, so ask him how he is.”

“ ’Petey, hi mate!  So glad to see you, buddy.  How’re you doing?  Do you know you’re dead?  Are you alright?’  He says he fine and he knows.  He says he’s sorry he had to leave but he’s still going to be with me for a while.  He says he loves me, Granma!“

“That’s wonderful, sweetheart, and what do you want to tell him?”

“ ‘Petey, you know I love you too, so much, buddy!  And I’m really sad you had to leave, I’m really gonna miss you, Petey.  I think it’s gonna help if we meet up like this from time to time.  I’m so glad to know you’re alright.’ “

“What’s happening?”

“He’s come over onto my lap, Granma, and he’s rubbing his face into my hands and purring.  He says he’s gonna be sleeping on my bed with me every night.  I think he’s gonna leave now, yeah, there he goes.”

“How are you feeling?”

“Sad, but I’m gonna be alright.”

“We’ll have a really special send-off for Petey’s body.  It’s going to be our way of celebrating the life he had with us.  Let’s sit down and plan everything we’re going to need and what you want to do, hey?”

“Okay, Granma, and thanks for helping me understand.”

“Anytime, sweetheart, always here for you.”

Granma Wisdom at the Beach

“Sweetie, look at that ray of sunshine coming down through that cloud there, straight as an arrow.  Look at how it’s lighting up the drops of water coming off the waves.”

“Oh, yes Granma, I see it!  And those drops look like diamonds!”

“Yes, beautiful, aren’t they, the way they sparkle.  I would say that’s magic.  That’s the magic of the elementals, that’s what happens when the fire elementals in the ray of light play with the water elementals in the droplets.  Sweetie, we’re lucky to see this magic today, what a gift!  Not many people will notice such a moment as this.”

“Really?”

“Look about the beach, look at the people, how many do you think have noticed?”

“Ummm… most people are playing on the beach and not looking out to sea…oh look, Granma!  There’s a lady over there, she’s looking out to sea, maybe she can see the diamonds!”

“Yes, and she’s got a lovely, peaceful smile on her face, maybe she can.”

“Granma, what do you think it’s like to be a water droplet coming off a wave?”

“Well, I expect it might be exhilarating.”

“What does that mean?”

“Let me see, it’s a word that packs in a lot of meaning.  It means exciting, perhaps breathtaking, thrilling, something that’s inspiring.  And also, I think it might feel a bit scary, you know, being so high and away from the sea, their home.  See the way they spin high up into the air and then freefall back into the sea?  For a few moments, it’s as though they’re getting a separate life of their own, not being part of the sea anymore.  Just like you.”

“What do you mean, Granma, I’m not the sea.”

“Well dear, just like the water droplets, we belong to something so vast that we are not even aware we’re a part of it.  And we’re experiencing the same exhilarating separation as the droplets when we live our lives.”

“Granma, I don’t know what you mean…?”

“Do you remember when we talked about how you’re mostly energy, and that you’re really like a pillar of light?  And that you’ve chosen to become the person you are to live the life you’re experiencing?”

“Yes, I remember, you said I’m a divine being.  So, you mean that living my life as a person is like being a droplet of water separated from the sea?”

“Yes!  Exactly so!  You got it, sweetheart.  Think of it this way, do you ever feel like the you that exists inside yourself can ever truly express all of itself to anyone else?”

“I know what you mean, Granma!  It’s like, nobody can understand how many thoughts I have and how many feelings I have and how much fun and happiness  I can feel or how much hurt or sadness I can feel, that stuff just is impossible to explain properly, I’ve tried.  You have to keep it to yourself.  And I thought that, probably, everybody else must feel like that too.  Probably, everybody is experiencing that same powerful feeling about themselves and we all don’t get to share very much of ourselves, really, do we, Granma?”

“Sweetie, you are wise for your years and I always said so. You are right. We’re all experiencing a deep and powerful involvement with ourselves inside. We simply can’t share that with anybody else, not to the depth that we feel it within ourselves. And that feeling is our ocean. That’s our divine nature. It just simply cannot be explained in words, so we can’t talk about it.”

“I’m confused, Granma, are you saying that we are the sea?”

“Our sea is the vastness that is the Creator, the divine source.  It’s who we really are, just like the droplet of water’s a single droplet that’s really the vast sea.  Look inside that droplet and what do you find?”

“Water.”

“Yes, water, exactly the same as the sea.”

“Granma, do you think the droplet is sad when it goes back in the sea and isn’t a droplet anymore?”

“Goodness, no!  How could it possibly be sad to be home, to be the truth of itself?  To be never feeling that sense of fear or separation.  I like to think that droplet loves its moment in the air but is never happier than when its at home, being the sea.

But you gotta remember, sweetie, like us, that droplet is always only ever the sea anyway.”

Granma Wisdom

“Granma, where about in the garden will I find the fire spirits?”

“Well, think about that for a moment, where about in the garden is there heat?”

“I don’t know.”

“Where’s there transformation?”

“Don’t know, Granma.”

“In the compost heap, of course!”

“Is that where they’ll be?”

“Yes!”

“Granma, what are they like?”

“Well, they don’t come across as friendly as the other elementals, not at first.  They’re very focused on their work and they don’t seem so interested in us humans as much as the others.  They move fast, faster than even the air spirits.”

“Granma, when I breathe, does an air spirit come out of my mouth?”

“Hee, hee, hee, bless you, no! What comes out is the air, air spirits are not the air, they’re the invisible beings who work with air’s energy and transform it into a higher, purer energy for us all.”

“How do they do that?”

“By movement, dancing and weaving, and by nurturing the energy and spinning it together, taking it down into the Earth and up into the highest heights, unifying it until it shines with brilliant light and love.”

“Wow, Granma, that sounds so cool!  What happens then?”

“The energy they create transforms our world into a magical world and we breathe it in.  Have you noticed that when we go for our walks, we go to some places that feel alive, full of magic and then we go to other places that feel dead or asleep?”

“Yes, Granma, you always point it out.”

“Well, where it feels so wonderful, that’s where there are lots of nature spirits getting on with their dancing and weaving and making their magic, and it’s food for our souls.  We humans need it to keep us healthy, all the animals do, everything does.  But where it feels dead or dormant, the spirits of earth, air, fire and water aren’t there anymore, or they’re there but can’t do their work.”

“Why can’t they do their work?”

“Oh, there are lots of reasons, but it’s always because humans have interfered with things.  Maybe a waterway has been blocked or diverted, a tree has had the branches it uses to direct energy across the landscape lopped off.  Maybe the hedgerows have been torn out that were creating harmony across the fields.  Most people can’t see energy like you and me, sweetie.  People don’t think about it and they do things that destroy the nature spirits’ homes and work, without realising.”

“Aw, that’s so sad, Granma.”

“Yes, it is.  That’s why we go out with the rattles and the chimes and make our chants, we’re bringing healing to those areas so the nature beings can come back.”

“I love that we do that, Granma.  When I get older, I’m going to tell everybody all about what the earth, air, water and fire spirits do when they dance and weave, so that people will understand.”

“That’s a very noble plan to have, my love.”
